Beyond the Coastline

Numbers don’t lie. They believed that it was the closest thing to the handwriting of God, and they always have a story.

The measured km of Bataan’s coastline from the town of Hermosa looped up to Morong—excluding the Subic Bay Metropolitan Area (SEA Knowledge Bank, 2017). The province of Bataan is more than just the town of heroes and saints. Beyond the coastline are a remarkable history, outstanding culture, exciting adventures, and wonderful stories. Being one of the provinces that promotes ecological and environmental conservation, Bataan continuously preserves key marine habitats and coastal areas within its reach.

Preservation and conservation meet tourist destinations. Bataan is also home to vacation spots that truly mesmerize because of their beauty and scenery. According to SEA Knowledge Bank (2017), coral reefs are found in coastal areas of Mariveles near the mouth of Manila Bay North Channel, looping to Bagac, Morong, and the SBMA along the Bataan-West Philippine Sea coastline. The province is not just giving awareness, but also taking you to a breath-taking experience.

There are 10 coastal municipalities and one coastal city located in the province of Bataan—from Morong and Bagac to Mariveles and Hermosa, and everything in between. These towns have been the companions of the coastline to ensure its sustainability and protection. Beyond these coastlines are sanctuaries located in Morong (Turtle Sanctuary) and Orion (Fish Sanctuary). Every municipality makes sure that they’ll maintain the state of the coastal and marine protected areas.

Bataan province is also home to the healthiest stands of mangroves located in Samal and Balanga—135.30 hectares of observed mangrove areas (SEA Knowledge Bank, 2017). Other key marine habitats like seaweed and seagrass patches stretch from Balanga, Pilar to Mariveles. This was proof that Bataan has invested in conserving the coastline and also the people of the province.
